Friends of Goodwin Forest
Dear Runners,

Thank you for registering for the 2021 Goodwin Forest Trail Run (GFTR)!

Please take a moment to read carefully through the information in this digital pre-race briefing.

It is important to familiarize yourself with the written description of the course, and note that all courses/trails are marked to be run counterclockwise. Courses will be marked with green arrows and the GFTR logo. We also have digital course maps through AllTrails (gps navigation app for your phone) which can be downloaded into a variety of formats.

Detailed information for each course:

You are responsible for your own safety and well-being at all times. We want everyone to be smart and safe! Please follow these pro-tips for a successful run:
  • Notify an emergency contact about your plans and your anticipated return time.
  • Carry a cell phone and printed map with you when you go for your run.
  • If possible, run with a buddy.
  • Check the weather forecast before starting your run – if wind gusts of 20+ mph are anticipated, consider running on another day.
  • If you’re undertaking one of the longer distances, leave a “drop bag” with fluids for rehydration and food(s) for sustenance. We recommend leaving them at the General Lyons Historic Site on Kingsbury Road (see detailed directions at the end of this email) and/or at either Morey Road or Marcy Road where they are crossed by the Blue Blazed Natchaug Trail. Please be responsible and carry out all your trash!

At the end of your run, you may pick up a genuine 2021 GFTR finisher’s blue blaze log from under the tarp at the start/finish line where the Blue/Yellow trails cross the asphalt road.  When you get home (and after you’ve placed your trophy on the mantel) don’t forget to send in your pictures and running time to goodwintrailrun@gmail.com. You can check the posted results within a few days here. Everyone who submits a finishing time will be sent one of our limited edition Goodwin Forest trail map bandanas!

Fun fact – Because of trail closures this year 95% of the course won’t actually be in Goodwin. Another fun fact, 100% of donations made will go to the Friends of the Goodwin Forest. A big thank you to those of you who have made a contribution to our cause. We are very grateful.

Happy Trails!
