Cookie Bakers!
Volunteers needed to bake 2-3 dozen cookies to be delivered to Goodwin Center on Saturday, June 2nd.

Positions: (6)


Trail Marker Cruisers: - Saturday, June 2

Volunteer Location: Bike-Run-Walk 10K and 30K Run Routes
Responsibilities: (1) Pick-up and review course map. (2) Ride/run/walk route to assure route flagging and trail markers are clearly displayed per Map. (3) Check-in with Race Director to confirm the flagging/trail markings are OK, or if need last minute attention.
Positions Available: Cruisers (5)

Parking – Start 7:00 AM, Finish 9:00 AM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Parking Lots and along Potter Road
Responsibilities: Direct traffic as it enters parking area. First, assure Cones are in place to block off areas where no parking is allowed. Direct Trail Run volunteers to designated parking areas. As runners arrive, first, fill up the parking lot at north end of grassy area, close off lot when filled; then expand to grass lot on west side of Potter adjacent to Center, close off lot when filled; expand parking to Group Camping area, close off when filled; expand parking to east side of Potter Road. After east side of Potter Road is full, expand to Airline Trail entrance area. After Airline Trail entrance area is filled expand to Christmas tree lots off Potter Road to west.
Reflective Vests to be provided to Parking volunteers.

Registration and Bib Pick-Up – Start 7:00 AM, Finish 9:00 AM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Pavilion Adjacent to Start /Finish Line
Responsibilities: (1) Register Day of Event Runners: Place Registration forms and pens on table. Collect Cash/Check only from runners on race morning. Assign Bib-Number based on participant’s selected distance. Add Runner Information to participant List. The most important thing when checking in a runner, is that we confirm that we have the correct distance entered, age, bib number assigned and waiver signed. (2) Issue bib with assigned number to the pre-registered runners. (3) Once Registration and Bib Pick-Up is closed, if not moving on to another position or you have time prior to moving on to that position, assist with clean-up and prepare for post race activities.

Official at Starting Line/Pavilion – Start 7:00 AM, Finish 9:00 AM

Who: Race Director
Responsibilities: (1) Direct the Volunteers to assignments and answer Volunteer questions. (2) Greet the Runners. (3) Confirm Water and Aid Stations are set-up; (4) Provide instructions to runners and start the Race. (5) Respond to any calls from Water/Aid Stations. (6) Handle Award Presentations. (7) If needed, arrange for more food/drinks.
Positions Available: Race Director

Grand Junction – Guide and Water Station – Start 8:00 AM, Finish 10:30 AM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteers at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Grand Junction
Responsibilities: (1) Transport supplies to Water Station. (2) Set up the tables and tent (if needed). (3) Direct runners to correct trail route. (4) Distribute Water to runners. (5) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (6) Dismantle Water Station and return equipment to Center.
Positions Available: Staff the Water Station and Guide runners (2-3)

Aid Station at Governor’s Island – Start 8:00 AM, Finish 11:00 AM
Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: (1) Governor’s Island Platform (2) and entrance to Governor’s Island causeway Responsibilities: (1) Transport supplies to Aid Station location. (2) Direct 10K runners to Governor’s Island viewing platform; (3) Record Bib Numbers of 10K runners at the Governor’s Island viewing platform; check off runners on Master List. (4) Set up Aid station to distribute water and cookies to 10K and 30K runners; encourage hydration. (5) Assure signs are in place to direct runners on 10K and 30K runs. (6) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (7) Dismantle Aid Station and return equipment/left-over food to Center.
Positions Available: Governor’s Island viewing platform (1), Staff the Aid Station (2-3).


Aid Station at Estabrooks Road– Start 8:30 AM, Finish 10:30 AM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Estabrooks Road intersection with Blue/White blazed trail
Responsibilities: (1) Transport supplies to Water Station. (2) Place signs “Runners Crossing Road” on Estabrooks Road. (3) Setup the table and tent (if needed). (4) Distribute Water to runners; encourage hydration. (5) Record bib numbers of runners; check off runners on Master list. (6) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (7) Dismantle Water Station and return equipment to Center.
Positions Available: Staff the Aid Station (2-3).

Aid Station at Morey Road – Start 9:00 AM, Finish 2:00 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Morey Road intersection with Blue blazed trail.
Responsibilities: (1) Transport the supplies to Aid Station and Set-up. (2) Place signs “Runners Crossing Road” on Morey Road. (3) Setup the table and tent (if needed). (4) Man the Aid station to assure water and other foods are available to all runners; encourage hydration. (5) Record bib number of runners; check off runners on Master List. (6) Display First Aid supplies at Station. (7) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (8) This is the second Cut-off Station for southbound runners who are averaging greater than 18 min/mile; if runner does not arrive at Aid Station by 1:30 - the Course is officially closed. (9) Dismantle Aid Station and return equipment/left-over food to Center; leave some water at Aid Station location just in case.
Positions Available: Staff the Aid Station (2-3).

Water Station at Intersection of Blue-Yellow Trail and Asphalt Road – Start 9:30, Finish 12:30

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Asphalt Road west off Kingsbury Road at Intersection with Blue Yellow trail
Responsibilities: (1) Transport the supplies to Water Station and Set-up. (2) Setup the table and tent (if needed). (3) Man the Aid station to assure water and other foods are available to all runners; encourage hydration. (4) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (5) Dismantle Aid Station and return equipment/left-over food to Center; leave some water at Aid Station location just in case.
Positions Available: Staff the Aid Station (2).

Aid Station at General Lyon’s State Park – Start 9:30 AM, Finish 12:30 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Locations: (1) Kingsbury Road where Natchaug trail crosses, and (2) Kingsbury Road at Beaver Dam Marsh Road.
Responsibilities: (1) Transport the supplies to Aid Station and Set-up. (2) Setup the table and tent (if needed). (3) Place signs “Runners Crossing Road” on both Kingsbury Road crossings. (4) Man the Aid station to assure water and other foods are available to all runners; encourage hydration. (5) Record bib number of runners; check off runners on Master List. (6) Display First Aid supplies at Station. (7) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (8) First of Time Limit Cut-offs for runners averaging less than 18 min/mile; if runner does not arrive at Aid Station by 12:30 - the course is officially closed. (9) Dismantle Aid Station and return equipment/left-over food to Center; leave some water at Aid Station location just in case a lost runner is still out there.
Positions Available: Staff the Aid Station and Road Crossings (3-4).

Aid Station at Eleventh Section Road – Start 11:00 AM, Finish 3:00 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Eleventh Section Road intersection with Blue/Yellow blazed trail.
Responsibilities: (1) Transport the supplies to Aid Station. (2) Place signs “Runners Crossing Road” on Eleventh Section Road. (3) Setup the table and tent (if needed). (4) Man the Aid station to assure water and other foods are available to all runners; encourage hydration. (5) Record bib number of runners; check off runners on Master List. (6) Display First Aid supplies at Station. (7) Contact Race Director if need for EMT or runner needs pick-up. (8) Dismantle Aid Station and return equipment/left-over food to Center; leave some water at Aid Station location just in case.
Positions Available: Staff the Aid Station (2-3).

10K Sweeper – Start 9:00 AM, Finish 11:00 AM
Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Bike-Run 10K Run Route
Responsibilities: (1) Course Sweepers follow behind the last 10K runner(s), picking up flags, garbage, looking for lost or injured runners and providing assistance wherever needed.
Positions Available: Sweepers (2)

30K Sweeper – Start 9:00 AM, Finish 3:30 AM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Bike-Run 30K Route
Responsibilities: (1) Course Sweepers follow behind the last runner(s), picking up flags, garbage, looking for lost or injured runners and providing assistance wherever needed.
Positions Available: Sweepers (2)

Finish Line – Timing and Awards – Start 8:30 AM, Finish 3:30 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer Assignment at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Finish Line
Responsibilities: (1) Manually record finish time for each runner – Operate Stop-Watch, Write down runner’s bib number/finish times; Take tear-off tabs. (2) Provide first Male and Female bib numbers for each Age Group to Race Director. (3) Direct runners to pick-up Finisher Award.
Positions Available: Stop-Watch Operator (1); Recorder of Information (1), Back-up timer (1), Bib Number Collection in Chute (2).

Post Race Food Table/Cooking – Start 9:30 AM, Finish 3:00 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteer assignments at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Volunteer Location: Finish Area - Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Responsibilities: (1) Make sure food table is stocked, drinks are available, and table/area is clean. (2) Operate grill and prepare hot dogs for runners, volunteers, and family members. (3) Set–out donation jar for runners/families.
Positions Available: Cook (1); Helpers (2-3)

Final Clean-Up – Start 3:00 PM, Finish 6:00 PM

Report to: Coordinator of Volunteers: at Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Location: Finish Area/Goodwin Forest Pavilion
Responsibilities: We encourage anyone who wants to stay until the end of the day to do so to help clean-up and tear-down. Some volunteers will be at the Goodwin Forest until about 6:00 PM.
Positions Available: All hands still there.
