Owls in Connecticut
Whoo is that trilling, whinnying, and barking in our yards and forests all night? Owls??? Yes! Join us for an introduction to these amazing nocturnal hunters found in Connecticut. Examine real owl pellets then make an owl puppet to take home and enjoy.

Fire Equipment
How do you fight forest fires? What type of equipment do you need? Come see the truck, the tools, the gear and learn about the job!

Tree Felling and Portable Sawmill
We will be felling an invasive Amur Cork Tree on the front lawn then demonstrating how a portable sawmill works.

Goodwin Forest Management Tour ages 12 and up 10:30 - 11:15

Walktober Hike! Join June Powell for a 3 mile, moderately paced loop hike (~2 hours) around Brown Hill Marsh on the Yellow Trail. Mostly flat terrain with some rocks and roots! Meet near the Pavilion for a prompt 10:30 start.

A Story of the Forest: James L Goodwin State Forest past and present. 11:00 - 11:30
This tour highlights the James L Goodwin history and what is happening now in management and with the center. Adults and children welcome.

Is my Forest Healthy? 12:30 - 1:00
Look for signs of forest health and disease. Adults and children welcome.

Life of a Forester 10:30-10:45 and 12:00 -12:15
Meet a forester! Children can model a forester's tools/outfit as we tell the story of the day in a life of a Forester. Geared towards children but all are welcome.

The fairies have returned to dot the trail with their homes. Look for them as you stroll the short trail. and enjoy the story walk on your adventure!
