The James L. Goodwin Forest and Conservation Education Center is jointly operated by the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP).
The Friends of Goodwin Forest (FGF) is a volunteer-based organization, working in cooperation with center staff and through the fiscal sponsorship of CFPA (a membership-based, private non-profit 501c3 organization.) In partnership with CFPA, the Friends support the Center and Goodwin State Forest by volunteering on trails and in gardens as well as supporting educational programs. We also bring awareness of the Forest to state officials and the public as well as raise funds to support our mission.

“The Friends of Goodwin Forest thanks the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) for supporting us as our fiscal sponsor. The James L. Goodwin Conservation Center has had a strong history with CFPA through James L. Goodwin, who was a CFPA board member and advocate for state parks.
The Connecticut Forest & Park Association protects forests, parks, walking trails, and open spaces for future generations by connecting people to the land. CFPA directly involves individuals and families, educators, community leaders, and volunteers to enhance and defend Connecticut's rich natural heritage. CFPA is a nonprofit organization that relies on members and supporters to carry out its mission. With a Staff of experienced conservation professionals and a Board of Directors who strongly support CFPA's mission and values, CFPA delivers programs on Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails, Environmental Education, Land Conservation, and Public Policy.
Their headquarters is located at the James L. Goodwin Forest & Park Center in the Rockfall section of Middlefield.”
