Your parks, forests, and other natural areas are too important to ignore.

The Goodwin Conservation Center has no full-time staff.  Currently, we have a part-time education director whose time is split between Goodwin and Connecticut Forest and Park Association (who funds the position). As a result, there is no on-site staff for supervision of seasonal workers. (The supervisor for Goodwin is responsible for 21K+ acres: 10 parks, 3 campgrounds, 3 forests, 6 sites, 13 boat launches and 15 wildlife management & flood control areas.)
We are able to have one seasonal* educator (this position has a fairly high turnover rate since it is considered an entry level/seasonal position) and one seasonal maintainer for facilities. The Friends of Goodwin Forest would like to have at least one full-time director who could supervise seasonal workers and provide opportunities to offer more programming.
*Seasonal employees work 9 months out of the year, entry level wages, no health insurance, no benefits. They must take three months off and may be rehired for the next season. The Friends group has used their funds to supplement the educational position during the 3 months break to provide continuity.

Read testimonies from various leaders throughout the state about the staffing crisis.
